This truly is a beautiful age for sitting babies and babies that can lift their heads reasonably well laying on their tummy. Their personalities are developing and it's such a wonderful age to capture those gorgeous smiles. Cute baby toes and bottoms, their little developing characters including those dropped lips sometimes too. Sessions usually last about 30 minutes, their attention spans are short. And being a model can be tiring!

 The wonderful world of newborn photography now seems to be moving into more composites! Is a composite cheating? Not at all. It suddenly gives you the advantage of endless props and colours. And the best bit is that it means when I do composite images, I don't have to pull baby around, and get them in and out of things, which means safer and less stressful shoots for babies and of course Mum's and Dad's! Of course sometimes there is a place still for putting baby into a prop safely, when there are siblings. My Harry Potter image the composite was actually my own creation and took around 12 hours (kicking myself I didn't save the background as a layer so at some point I'm going to have to recreate it.

 This gorgeous little lady was not a good sleeper and pulling her around just made her upset, I've actually managed to create a beautiful and artistic and varied gallery by compositing baby onto the digital backdrop.

Truly blessed at the moment, I've been photographing a lot more creatively and making some very special and unique images for my clients walls! This sweet little girl just had to be a sunflower, links to the hat and backdrop are on the portfolio link above.
Lots of things in the pipeline at the moment, including the amazing snow fairy mini sessions in half term. And beautiful family sessions. I just need to freeze time to try and get everything I want in and done! Lovely to be so busy though!

Gorgeous little Ipswich newborn Eli visited me at my Sudbury, Suffolk studio this week. He fought going off to sleep but we got there in the end. Baby is posed safely on a shelf (ha ha 8 hours waiting to win it at auction but it was exactly what I envisioned). A hand was also on baby at all times. Separate images were taken of the shelf laying flat on the backdrop. I know the shelf thing has been done many times, I've been waiting for two years until I had the right shelf, I knew exactly how I wanted this to look. I love getting creative. I did a workshop with Barb Uli (Jinky Art) on business and the thing that stuck with me most was to follow my heart with what I produce, it's very easy to get drawn to creating the same images over and over. I love this image, I love the outfit by Fairytale Photography Props, she's just making me some seriously stripy Christmas santa outfits - eek just a bit excited! I love Christmas.

As you can see Eli's shoot was really varied, there are a huge amount of images yet to come from his session, but what an absolutely gorgeous little baby. For all following me my Christmas mini sessions for October half term are now filling up nicely. You can book in here for Christmas mini and snow fairy photo sessions. If you are looking for newborn photography it is best done at under 14 days of age, it can still be done but is harder. I love creating stunning artistic images for families, heirloom images to treasure of your precious baby.

Gracie turns one! First birthday cake smash - Essex photographer, Suffolk photographer, milestone cake smash sessions.

Gorgeous little Gracie last saw me at just over 6 months, and she has changed so much in the short period of time since I last saw her. We went for a really pretty girly theme, although I do personalise each and every cake smash, I live on the Suffolk, Essex border and so am in easy reach of London, Cambridge as well as right across Essex and Suffolk. Cake smashes are a bit of an American thing! But they are really becoming popular in the UK. I love seeing the children growing up, and a cake smash isn't just a photo shoot, it's a bit of messy play, it's that look when they're allowed to dive in and they mainly look at their parent to see if they are allowed and then get a massive grin on their face! Not all children like cake or getting messy, so sometimes paint can be used instead, I do encourage parents to give their child a cupcake beforehand and let them get messy as this helps when they come to the shoot. I use a professional cake maker, that is really reliable, makes the tastiest and prettiest cakes, and has most importantly a 5* rating for hygiene. She can cater for allergies, it is so important to know children won't get ill from something which should be fun.

 Look at that face! Says it all, I know sugar is bad, but this is a one off, they don't eat all the cake, and Deb's who makes the cakes really does use high quality ingredients.

 Cake smash sessions usually have normal images beforehand i.e. child in an outfit, maybe parent and sibling shots, they tend to have a shorter attention span at this age so shoots usually take 45 minutes to an hour. I'm very good at reading when a child is ready to move onto the next part, which is the gooey cake (they smell so fabulous I wish I had smellavision for you). We finish off with a splash and clean up usually in my mini rolltop bath, or I also have a rustic antique tin bath as I have had the odd cowboy cake smash, Gracie clearly is a princess and needed a girly pink flowery cake smash. I put a lot of effort into ensuring each cake smash is slightly different.

 I send my full price list out to parents before booking in cake smashes, I can't compete with photographers who make their own cakes, I really am safety conscious, I do try to keep my prices so they are affordable. Splash sessions are available as mini sessions as are just plain one year mini sessions. Obviously the full blown cake smash takes planning, different props, and a cake included. Plus all the editing afterwards. But they are worth it!

 The cuteness overload is just too much!
