 This beautiful family came to visit me for a newborn photography session, sibling shots are always included and parent shots if required. I love this image, the girls are so proud and in love with their new baby sister. Sweet simple colours, gold tones. They really are golden girls. I had been wanting to use this hat for ages. Most of my felted props come all the way now from America, even with the rubbish exchange rate at the moment, this lady can make anything! I often message her and run ideas past her, and she always comes up with something beyond my expectations! I obviously carry a fair amount of stock now bespoke and beautifully crafted creations, I can however have things made, if you would like something tailored for your shoot, let me know in plenty of time, as they take a little while to make and then travel across the Atlantic! This golden shelf caught my eye, I love gold at the moment, and I love ornate beautiful things, this French inspired shelf, perfectly matches the beautiful golden headband from Kittys Boutique. I love styling and theming shoots. These images are from just one newborn session. A huge amount of work goes into editing and artwork, I've recently moved my pricing structure to slightly cheaper for the first couple of packages, in a day when everyone wants digital, and having hard drives fail lots (I seriously back up in triplicate, and have cloud storage too to protect my client images), it frightens me that a usb or cd will corrupt. It literally can take one little power surge and all that work is gone, so I'm moving to ensure my clients have at least one professionally printed product. Print your images everyone! Children don't sit gazing at Facebook to see themselves and there is a chance those images could vanish one day. Nothing fills a child with more self worth and pride than seeing a cherished photo in a frame or in an album.

 The next two gorgeous sets came from FAIRY TALE PHOTOGRAPHY PROPS another local to me, prop maker, making exquisite hats, and layers with beautiful yarns, all ethically sourced. Some of the items I have can be traced back to the animals they kindly came from. Whilst people may class newborn photography as expensive, running a newborn business creates jobs for many other businesses too, and when families love a certain style, and look, you can't create some things from a pound bargain from China on ebay. The scary thing for me is seeing some of the animal cruelty from some Countries, and so it's important to me that my brand encompasses not only sweet and gentle newborn snuggles, and safety, but supports animal welfare, and other trades.

 This gorgeous merino layer is seriously so soft, Fairy tale props created this gorgeous set. Honestly purple and gold is just so stunning, and this gorgeous little girl she is just so divine. As you can see, a newborn session can be as simple as your taste or actually create a vibrant, beautiful, fine art gallery of stunning images.

 The amazing Puddy Pad Designs - link above made this stunning unicorn hat, I wasn't sure it would be popular but it is! This stunning floral wood effect backdrop is exclusive to PROPS FOR TOGS
 Baby was posed on the beanbag for this shot and photoshopped in. If a baby is ever in a prop, a hand is always in place at all times or hovering to ensure baby will not fall out.

I frequently have families travel from Cambridge and London, to my home studio. The vast majority of my clients come from Essex and Suffolk. I get booked up months in advance, so it's worth getting in touch early to ensure I can fit you in.

I was delighted to travel to Bury St Edmunds to meet this gorgeous little family. Mum and Dad consider them brother and sister, their pets are very much their family. Of course safety is always a priority with newborns and so Adeline was photographed separately to Gary, and then the photograph was merged. As with all newborn shoots a hand is always on baby when baby is in a prop and then photoshopped out.

This pink flokati with the dreamcatcher from Kittys Boutique who make the vast majority of my headbands and newborn outfits and sitter sets and of course their incredible tulle skirts and tops. Baby is photographed on a huge beanbag covered in blankets or flokatis and is always perfectly safe, again if a baby is propped up in any way then a hand will be in place and there will be posing pads rolled up underneath to support babies head, feet or back to ensure they won't suddenly roll backwards.

And as always baby cuddled up with a tiny teddy bear is a very firm favourite with my newborn clients. Occasionally we use a different animal and some parents have themed their sitter session and then cake smash to include rabbits or bears. Each shoot is different whether I'm photographing a child or baby or family. The sessions are carefully planned with the families tastes in mind and their opinions on poses and colours. This shoot lasted just over 2 hours, I always find if the parents are chilled and happy to sit back and enjoy the beauty of their newborn then it makes a very smooth session, and most families are very at ease by the time of their shoot as I address their concerns beforehand. Parents can often get quite emotional watching the session and seeing just how tiny their perfect little person is that they have nurtured and grown over the months, it's a whirlwind after you give birth, emotions on a rollercoaster, a constant stream of well wishers and this new little person dependant on your for their safety and wellbeing. A newborn shoot is a wonderful time to kick back and sip your tea or coffee and let someone safely handle your child and create beautiful images to remember for life, it really is no lie how quickly they change. It literally seems like a blink and it's gone. I always feel so incredibly honoured to capture families precious memories. I am drifting a little more into more lifestyle shoots with my sessions now if I go to a families home, and am very lucky my years of experience give me so much versatility at being able to switch from documentary photography, to lifestyle and the more posed newborn images of this session. It also helps me stop from getting bored! I would hate to do the same thing day in and day out like a production line, I think that's why I'm so keen to listen to clients and what they would like from their photography session.

I love creating unique art pieces for families and as you can see from my guestbook and feedback on my Facebook page . Families really enjoy the session and just catching their breath to drink in the beauty of this little piece of perfection. One thing for sure is life will never ever be the same!

 To see my newborn portfolio click here. I was honoured that this little beauties Mummy and Daddy chose me to take her newborn shots. Her parents are over from America, and liked my work so chose me to capture this precious little babies newborn shots. The fascinator is babies Great Grandmothers, and Mum wore it as her fascinator on her wedding day. I love the history and significance of this photo. Hopefully this will be something that continues over the years.

 We decided on a really simple styled theme, just little pops of colour, and simple shots, after all what is more beautiful than a gorgeous little newborn baby. Mum and Dad were happy letting me pick little bits and pieces, and even though I do a lot of planning before a newborn shoot. I always show parents the selection of things I have picked out when they arrive and let them have a look at anything else I have. I love incorporating ideas from families, in fact I have some very exciting shoots coming up that are more themed.

 Those lips and lashes, new babies change so quickly and lose that newborn look so quickly.

 If you follow my blog posts or website you will know that I choose to use ethically sourced props, and wool products, that gorgeous newborn bear hat from Angora? Bunny was brushed and loose fur collected. Such a simple shot, but you can see so much of babies family in this photo. 

We actually didn't do too many prop shots in this session. I do however love this birch bed, it's one of my favourite props. So simple and natural. 

Gracie turns one! First birthday cake smash - Essex photographer, Suffolk photographer, milestone cake smash sessions.

Gorgeous little Gracie last saw me at just over 6 months, and she has changed so much in the short period of time since I last saw her. We went for a really pretty girly theme, although I do personalise each and every cake smash, I live on the Suffolk, Essex border and so am in easy reach of London, Cambridge as well as right across Essex and Suffolk. Cake smashes are a bit of an American thing! But they are really becoming popular in the UK. I love seeing the children growing up, and a cake smash isn't just a photo shoot, it's a bit of messy play, it's that look when they're allowed to dive in and they mainly look at their parent to see if they are allowed and then get a massive grin on their face! Not all children like cake or getting messy, so sometimes paint can be used instead, I do encourage parents to give their child a cupcake beforehand and let them get messy as this helps when they come to the shoot. I use a professional cake maker, that is really reliable, makes the tastiest and prettiest cakes, and has most importantly a 5* rating for hygiene. She can cater for allergies, it is so important to know children won't get ill from something which should be fun.

 Look at that face! Says it all, I know sugar is bad, but this is a one off, they don't eat all the cake, and Deb's who makes the cakes really does use high quality ingredients.

 Cake smash sessions usually have normal images beforehand i.e. child in an outfit, maybe parent and sibling shots, they tend to have a shorter attention span at this age so shoots usually take 45 minutes to an hour. I'm very good at reading when a child is ready to move onto the next part, which is the gooey cake (they smell so fabulous I wish I had smellavision for you). We finish off with a splash and clean up usually in my mini rolltop bath, or I also have a rustic antique tin bath as I have had the odd cowboy cake smash, Gracie clearly is a princess and needed a girly pink flowery cake smash. I put a lot of effort into ensuring each cake smash is slightly different.

 I send my full price list out to parents before booking in cake smashes, I can't compete with photographers who make their own cakes, I really am safety conscious, I do try to keep my prices so they are affordable. Splash sessions are available as mini sessions as are just plain one year mini sessions. Obviously the full blown cake smash takes planning, different props, and a cake included. Plus all the editing afterwards. But they are worth it!

 The cuteness overload is just too much!
